Things I once thought would be the line of demarcation indicating I’m happy and complete

1. When I got my first full time job.

2. When I moved out of my parents’ house.

3. When I could afford to give up roommates and have my own space.

4. When I had a boyfriend.

5. When I became a Vice President at my job.

6. When I was a boss of other people.

7. When I was in love.

8. When I brought someone special home to my family.

9. When my Dad got sober.

10. When my Dad was successfully treated for his cancer.

11. When my Dad’s suffering ended.

12. When my Mom healed and got a new lease on life after losing my Dad.

13. When I got into a serious relationship and became a stepmom to two young kids.

14. When I got pregnant.

15. When I got married.

16. When I became a biological mom.

17. When I got past that first tough year of motherhood.

18. When my child could dress and feed herself.

19. When I left my toxic workplace.

20. When I got an “easy” job close to home.

21. When I got another job with benefits and didn’t have to commute anymore.

22. When I left another toxic workplace.

23. When I became a college professor.

24. When I had all the time in the world to write.

25. When my children learned self sufficiency.

26. When I got my yoga teacher training certification.

27. When I had enough money saved for my kids’ college and our retirement.

28. When I got in really good shape.

29. When I got short hair.

30. When I got a tattoo.

31. When I learned that contentment can only truly be found in the here and now.
